Speaking one’s own language is a powerful way to ensure cultural survival, and it has a positive impact on shaping a strong sense of identity, maintaining wellbeing and growing self-esteem and confidence. 

Teach your ancestral language to students in your community 

The Guugu Yimithirr Language program has been designed for Guugu Yimithirr speakers so they can effectively teach the language to others. It is currently being used at Hope Vale campus of CYAAA. If you are a Guugu Yimithirr person who would like to teach Guugu Yimithirr language, contact info@goodtogreatschools.org.au to discuss free access to this program.

Share the unique perspective of Indigenous Australians 

Australia’s Indigenous languages capture the unique viewpoints of Indigenous Australians. Schools play a role in helping transmit this valuable cultural heritage for the next generation.

Our story

Good to Great Schools Australia exists so every Australian child, no matter their background, can attend a school that develops their potential. 
We developed the Guugu Yimithirr Language program in partnership with local Indigenous leaders and the Guugu Yimithirr Curriculum Advisory Group to help sustain the Guugu Yimithirr language. 
We have also partnered with Guugu Yimithirr speakers to create an online library of free Guugu Yimithirr language tutorials. Shared on YouTube and Facebook, these tutorials enable Guugu Yimithirr people to learn their language no matter where they live.
