Cape York Australian Aboriginal Academy

Good to Great Schools Australia has a unique and innovative partnership with the Department of Education (DoE) Queensland to deliver the Cape York Aboriginal Australian Academy (CYAAA) in two state primary schools in Hope Vale and Coen.

DoE operates the school campuses like they do all Queensland state schools, including the employment of all school staff, management of school finances, operations and facilities, and the health, safety and wellbeing of all students and staff.

GGSA provides the education model which incorporates a strong focus on English, Maths and Science, as well as local and language and culture, music and student and family support. GGSA also provides experts to prove a full suite of professional support to all the teaching faculty.

CYAAA aims to close the academic achievement gap so that students successfully transition into high-quality, high-expectation secondary boarding schools and graduate at the same levels as their mainstream peers. They ensure that every child’s academic, emotional, material, health and well-being needs are addressed.

CYAAA has an extended school day and operates additional hours to ensure students have more time to close the education gap. Additional time is spent on rich creative activities in language, music and the arts.

GGSA provides the school team with school improvement implementation support
and extensive professional development in effective teaching.
