Schools delivering the program are provided with a comprehensive suite of high-quality teaching resources including classroom-ready lessons, an assessment framework, student workbooks, teaching guides and additional supporting material such as posters and trading cards.
Oz-e-English is aligned to the Australian Curriculum: English. The units provide opportunities to develop the interpreting, analysing and evaluating reading requirements from vocabulary and concept knowledge through to identification of text structures and language features.
Each ten-week unit of the Oz-e-English program targets a specific text type being imaginative, informative or persuasive. There are five 75-minute lessons each week incorporating joint and independent text construction.
Oz-e-English also integrates other key learning areas including History and Business and Economics through rich exemplar texts, writing tasks, discussions and activities.
The lessons and pedagogy use explicit instruction, which has a strong evidence base as the most effective way to teach children. Lessons are carefully sequenced and structured, have rapid reviews, check for understanding and regular progress tests so students can consolidate and master critical content.
Oz-e-English can be delivered in both single stream and multigrade classrooms. For example, Year 5 is developed to be delivered along with Year 6 students with differentiation options for outcomes and assessment.
