- Recognise how repetition and contrast are used in simple texts (ACELA1448).
- Understand that various punctuation marks, such as full stops, question marks, and exclamation points, indicate sentences that make statements, ask questions, convey emotion, or issue commands (ACELA1449).
- Recognise the components of a simple phrase that indicate 'What's happening?', 'What state is being described?', 'Who or what is involved?' and the context (ACELA1451).
- Examine how words for persons, places, and things (nouns, including pronouns), actions and states (verbs), characteristics (adjectives), and specifics like when, where, and how (adverbs) differ (ACELA1452).
- Read and write high-frequency words using visual memory (ACELA1821).
