Test is the completion of the module through tests throughout, appraisal is through practicing with peers and mastery demonstration of practice within your school or classroom.
Tests in the Mastery Teaching Pathway:
- are designed to test the knowledge and skills attained in the module.
- are included in each lesson of the module, some lessons include multiple tests.
- include support and correct answers to support learning.
Certification
Participants can download a Record of Completion on successful completion of module.
In the appraisal assessment phase participants submit a recording of themselves demonstrating the skills, techniques and knowledge covered by the module in a staged situation, e.g. not a real live classroom.
Recordings must be submitted within two school weeks of completing the module.
If participant has ‘demonstrated standard’ in two out of three exercises for each technique or step they pass, then assessment is complete. The total score is calculated and a grade is given.
Participants who do not pass have the opportunity to review the practices they could not apply and seek out coaching to practice what they need to do to pass and can resubmit a video within one week.
In the mastery evaluation phase participants are assessed ‘on the job’ to ensure they can perform the skills to mastery. This phase may be completed face-to-face or virtually via Swivl.
Mastery evaluations are conducted at the end of the module within thirty days after passing the application assessment.
Certification
Participants receive notification of results (and certification if passed) within five days of submitting assessment video.
Participants receive Certified Accreditation of Mastery.
Our three Standards modules:
-
Learn effective teaching essentials
-
Deliver Direct Instruction
-
Deliver effective teaching
are focused on knowledge rather than practical skills which are assessed in program trainings. As these modules are introductory and knowledge-based, they only have a test, and not application appraisal and mastery evaluation.
The assessment procedure
- Participants need to complete the assessment within ten weeks (one term) of completing the module.
- Participants score the requisite marks to pass and if they do not meet the pass score, they fail.
- Participants who pass each component of assessments receive an acknowledgment certification clarifying which part of assessment they have completed with description of what it means.
- Good to Great Schools Australia provides an assessor with expertise in the specific topic.
- The Mastery Teaching Pathway keeps a record of training and development completed.
- Results are available to the participant and their school principal on the Mastery Teaching Pathway.
