Northern Territory Education Minister visits Academy
The Hon Peter Chandler, Minister for Education for the Northern Territory, visited our Academy schools last week, and gained quite a bit of media attention from ABC and NT News.
Each day of the 3-day visit prompted a new article that appeared daily in the NT News from April 22, 23, 24 and 25.
In the first article that appeared, headlined “Taking a lesson in fixing schools,” Academy schools are profiled as being highly successful and a model of what could be used in the Northern Territory. The article mentions Noel and his influence in the model, as well as profiles a few students who are succeeding and going to boarding school elsewhere.
The article from April 23, “Regional focus proves positive,” mentions how well the education models of our affiliate Djarragun College, as well as Western Cape College in Weipa, are doing. The article specifically mentions the preparation that is done at our own Academy schools for these students to be able to further their education past primary school.
The article from April 24, “Direct learning program can work in NT: Minister,” mentions the potential for the Direct Instruction model used at our schools to be used across the Northern Territory, and the article from April 25, “Educators speak same language on tradition,” mentions the importance of the bicultural instruction that is done at our schools—specifically mentioning the language studies at Hope Vale school.
The ABC also covered the visit. as the online version of the article says,“ says he was impressed by the students’ engagement, and is seriously considering the model for Territory schools.”
All coverage appeared positive.
